Join teacher, Andrea Alaniz for a free dance class at MoNA! This is a class designed for all ages and abilities focused on learning basic steps, turns, and sequences from a variety of regions including Jalisco, Veracruz, Nuevo Leon, and Chiapas. We will also touch on some of the historical and cultural influences of the movements, music, and wardrobe in these regions.

Age range: all ages

Level: Beginning

About Andrea:

Andrea Alaniz is the Outreach Librarian at Mount Vernon City Library. Baile Folklorico is one of the programs she offers in the community for the library. She currently teaches Baile Folklorico at Mount Baker and Laventure Middle Schools and offers free classes at other community events throughout the year. Andrea helped start the Folklorico program at Mount Vernon High School and taught folklorico to students in the Burlington-Edison School District for many years when she was an elementary school librarian.

  • The facility is wheelchair accessible and an elevator is available in the back of the building

  • A wheelchair is available for visitors

  • Limited seating is provided throughout the galleries and studio space

  • Restrooms are available on both floors of the museum. Changing tables are available in the restrooms on the 2nd floor and an all-gender restroom is available on the 1st floor of the museum
