Meet the Artists

Juliet Shen

Juliet Shen was born and raised in New York. She is a first generation Chinese American whose father worked for the United Nations and whose mother painted and sculpted. She studied oil painting with Dick Ralph and Richard Mayhew and is self-taught in the use of Chinese brush and ink. Shen has resided in Seattle since 1983, where she owned a design firm and taught typography at the School of Visual Concepts. Late in her career, she earned a Master of Typeface Design degree in England and specialized in designing typefaces, including a font for Lushootseed, the indigenous language of Puget Sound. Since her retirement in 2012, she has been painting full time, exhibiting in local galleries and cultural institutions in Seattle, Tacoma, Everett, La Conner, Bainbridge and Vashon. Her ten-foot tall paintings on paper were exhibited in MoNA’s Silva Cascadia: Under the Spell of the Forest show in 2024. Shen recently completed a commission for the new Hotel Populus in Seattle. She was a member of the Duwamish Artists Residency for 12 years and is the founder of CoDraw Seattle, a group of artists who create drawings collectively.

Jeremy Bert

Jeremy Bert is a Seattle based artist working primarily with electric light, neon and

manipulated reclaimed signage. Originally from Montana, an early interest in ceramics lead him to The NY State School of Art and Design at Alfred University, earning a BFA in 1994.In 1995 Jeremy moved to Seattle, WA where he has worked for over 30 years as a licensed sign electrician, certified welder, crane operator, light projects designer. Bert has taught neon workshops at The Studio at Corning Museum of Glass NY, Pilchuck Glass School in Stanwood WA, Urban Glass in NYC and Penland School of Craft in NC. Jeremy’s work is held in public and private collections. He has exhibited his work at MONA The Museum of Neon Art in Los Angeles CA, Jenkins Johnson Gallery San Francisco, CA & New York NY, Traver Gallery Seattle, WA, and The Museum of Glass Tacoma, WA. His work, “Transient light Graffiti” is in the permanent collection of the Children’s Museum in Pittsburgh PA. Jeremy’s mixed media sculpture represents a strong commitment to re-usage. By re- appropriating the refuse of the sign industry Bert reclaims commercial waste and transforms it into something enriching for the community. Jeremy and his wife, Jen Elek, maintain a studio at their home in south Seattle where they fabricate neon and steel projects. Jeremy and Jen recently completed a permanent installation at SEATAC Airport for the Port of Seattle.

Morgan Madison

He explores evolving themes of place, creates commissioned art for public and private clients, and teaches internationally. Encouraged by his parents and teachers—and inspired by Bob Ross—he earned a BA in Studio Art from Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon. A subsequent job in a glass factory introduced Madison to the material that became central to his practice. In 2013, he settled in Seattle and built his studio from the ground up with help from friends. Recent exhibitions include Surge at the Museum of Northwest Art and Seattle Art Fair with the Corning Museum of Glass. Commissions include works for Seattle Center and Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. Residencies include the Museum of Arts and Design in New York and S12 in Bergen, Norway.
