The next MoNA Collectors Club event: A visit to the studio of sculptor Weston Lambert, and an exclusive behind the scenes visit to the Tacoma Art Museum.
The day will begin with a visit to the studio of Weston Lambert. From intimate, hand-held forms to monumental public installations, Lambert continues to push the boundaries of material and form—inviting viewers to experience the interplay between transparency, weight, and light in unexpected ways. In his pursuit of permanence, Lambert’s sculpture, Swell, was purchased for the museum by the Collectors Club last year. Lambert will share with the group how, in the heat of his kiln, molten glass nestles into stone and days of grinding/polishing simulate eons of erosion. Lambert creates invulnerable, seamless objects that have been broken and mended outside of geological time.
For the afternoon the group will enjoy a tour of the Tacoma Art Museum’s galleries with TAM’s Director of Curatorial Affairs, and the juror for this year’s MoNA annual auction, Jessica Wilks. Wilks will share her insights into some of TAM’s current exhibitions, then lead the group for a behind the scenes visit to TAM’s collections storage, where she and Christian Waguespack, MoNA’s Director of Curatorial Affairs & Curator of Northwest Art, will discuss selected works from the collection.
