MoNA hosts a traveling exhibition of the paintings and related works of Spokane artist Ric Gendron (pronounced zhan-dreau), a dual-enrolled member of the Arrow Lakes Band of the Confederated Tribes of the Colville and the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla. Gendron is a little-known but important late-career Native artist, and the exhibition and monograph feature more than 30 years of his vibrantly expressionistic and lyrical paintings and prints. His paintings and mixed-media works illustrate the rich and diverse visual vocabulary of traditional Upper Columbia Plateau Indian culture and iconography, but a traditional iconography made wholly contemporary.

Curated by independent curator Ben Mitchell, Rattlebone originated at Missoula Art Museum in November 2012, then traveled to the Tamástsklit Cultural Institute at the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Reservation near Pendleton, OR. After Mona, the exhibition travels to the Museum of Contemporary Indian Arts at the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, NM, and completes its journey at the Jundt Art Museum, Gonzaga University in Spokane.
