Benjamin Cobb - Natural Reflection

July 5 - September 28, 2014

Benjamin Cobb has always been fascinated by science and the natural world. Most recently his focus has been on the internal organs of the body. By creating abstract, stylized versions of stomachs, kidneys, and lungs, he challenges the viewers’ thoughts and ideals of beauty. Increasingly, forms from the natural world have crept into his repertoire of shapes: the way a seed pod develops over the springtime to open into a flower, or the color change of gingko leaves from dark green in the summer months to the brilliant gold in early fall.

Cobb started with glass in his hometown of Newport, RI. He attended the School for American Crafts at the Rochester Institute of Technology. While working on his B.F.A., he continued with classes at The Corning Museum of Glass Studio. Cobb worked at studios in the San Francisco Bay Area, as well as at Haystack Mountain School for Crafts, The Studio, and at Pilchuck Glass School. Cobb is a designer and the lead glassblower at the Museum of Glass. His work is represented by Vetri International and the William Traver Gallery.
