What’s going on in this picture?

This is the first question posed to students when they look at an artwork during a MoNA Link tour. MoNA educators use Visual Thinking Strategies, or VTS, to engage students and it allows the viewer to construct their own meaning from the artworks discussed. Hidden Narrative is based on this learning strategy and viewers are encouraged to answer the question based on what they see in the picture. This exhibit is a collaboration between the MoNA Curatorial and Education Departments and we hope that you enjoy making meaning for the artworks on display, many of which have hidden narratives.
